What Sheldon Lavin Has Turned OSI Industries Into Over The Years

OSI Industries has proven over the years that even big companies can have success running like a mom and pop shop. Lavin joined the meat wholesale company back when they were Otto & Sons, a Chicago meat plant that had formerly been a butcher shop. They had become the chosen partner for McDonald’s Corporation and now had the task of raising financing to build more processing plants to meet the McDonald’s demand. That’s when Sheldon Lavin was called upon to make the financing happen. Lavin had had many years of experience in banking and investment consulting and was actually the founder of a boutique firm. As part-time financial manager at Otto & Sons, he did such a tremendous job that the aging owners started asking him to take over the company.

Lavin’s passion up till that point had been in finance and investing, and when asked to become CEO of a meat wholesale company, he was hesitant at first. But when offered an ownership stake and a chance to grow the company as he saw fit, Lavin accepted and Otto & Sons took off from there. Upon making their first major venture overseas, the company became renamed OSI Industries.

One way to describe Lavin is that even today beyond 80 years old, he just doesn’t seem to slow down. He not only loves the people he works with, he also cares deeply about the local community and other charities across the US. He’s involved with the Inner City Foundation of Chicago, several non-profit health organizations, wildlife park services, and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Commemorating 40 years of Lavin’s business and philanthropic accomplishments in 2016 was Global Vision Academy, an organization in India that awards people for excellence in building a business and sustaining it for a long time. As a leader of many Jewish organizations, Adam Milstein is an Israeli-American businessman and philanthropist who has made his mark in helping to strengthen the critical U.S.-Israeli alliance.

Born in 1952 in Haifa, Israel, Adam Milstein is the oldest child of Hillel and Eva Millstein. He spent his early years in Kiryat Yam and later in Kiryat Motzkin.

In 1971 he entered the Israeli Army for his compulsory service, and in 1973 he served during the Yom Kippur War. Adam Milstein married Gila Elgrably in 1974 and enrolled in the Technion, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business and economics.

They moved to the United States in 1981, and two years later he received a Master of Business Administration degree after enrolling in the University of Southern California. Soon after he went to work as sales agent in commercial real estate.

Adam Milstein’s career ventures are varied and numerous. As a managing partner of Hager Pacific Properties, which focuses on rehabilitating and restoring retail, office, and industrial properties, he oversees the firm’s financing, disposition, and accounting.

Mr. Milstein also sits on the boards of several organizations, including Hasbra Fellowships, Birthright Israel, Stand By Me, American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and the Israel on Campus Coalition.

The Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation was founded in 2000 by Milstein and his wife, Gila. This organization supports academic interests of students who want to identify and advocate with the State of Israel, as well as offering them the opportunity to demonstrate their Jewish pride.

In October of 2016, Adam Milstein was honored as one of the 50 most influential Jewish figures to have made an impact in the world over the last year by the Jerusalem Post.

And earlier this year, the publication Richtopia, along with social media ranking system, Rise, named him as one of the 200 Most Influential Do-Gooders in the World, joining other prominent philanthropists on the list, such as Mark Zuckerberg, J.K. American Institutes Of Architects 160 Years And Later

The American Institute of Architects has been serving its members through advocacy and information for more than 150 years. The Institute was birthed by 13 architects who saw the need of bringing uniformity in how architects operate. The 13 members wanted to enhance practical and scientific perfections of members.
